Pervis Van Peters and David Dickinson

Croftsmen enigma Pervis Van Peters has been a long time admirer of David 'cheap chips' Dickinson's bric-a-brac knowledge, fine dress sense and cheeky bent, so much so that for some time now he has been trying to secure a personal audience with 'The Duke'.

Well, after many failed attempts, quick thinking Pervis managed to short cut the entire process last week by emailing his most pressing questions to another long time would be friend and hero, none other than Mr Terry Wogan.

'The Duke' was due to appear on Channel Five's 'The Terry and Gabby Show', and Pervis jumped at the opportunity. Wogan duly obliged and quizzed Dickinson with precision probing on Tailoring tips. Specifically, Pervis wanted David to reveal his holy grail - his famous expert knowledge of Tailor selection. Just how does one choose a tailor? As regular readers will know, Pervis has been in a state of considerable angst recently, ever since his long time Tailor Austin 'Le Burl' Burltrap 'did a runner' to Eastern Europe.

Terry posed the question, ...but alas, the true Pro David bought himself time by eating a chocolate strawberry, and then skilfully steered the question away from revealing his much prized tailor selection knowledge by instead talking about his tailor (a subtle but key difference). The master then completed the side step by providing Wogan with a set up for a classic sexual innuendo gag, which Wogan lapped up with glee. And in a split second, the moment had passed.

See the video here:

Terry then went on to surprise David in true Cilla Black 'Surprise Surprise' style, by revealing that they had David's true life Tailor lined up on the phone! Terry then patched the Tailor through to speak to the big man himself. David immediately pressed the man for a progress report on a pair of trousers he was having adjusted.

Pervis was quite overcome with the event, and briefly went into a state shock at the end of the interview. However, after he had calmed down he gave us a few words in comment: "I am walking on air! Sure, David didn't answer the question, but when Terry read my words aloud and David responded I felt a bond form between us, through the television set. It was really very spiritual, and genuinely moving".
