My Left Floot
Building on the success of 'Uncommonly
Good', the band followed up with the all time classic 'My
Left Floot'. This was the band's first true concept album, and
was formed from an eclectic combination of classic folk and Celtic
themes, with dark pagan and mythological overtones. The album starts
in apparent sweet country life innocence with 'Farmhands gather',
but quickly moves to a more disturbing tone with the folk 'freakrock'
classic 'Quasimojo' - also used in the controversial stage play
'Hump'.
The mood then switches to feelings of exile, toil
and dangerous adventure with 'The Lazy Nomad', 'Lord of the Wings'
and 'Edible Sandals'. In the middle section of the album the mood
turns to triumphant pomp and expectant excitement
of a forthcoming village pageant with 'The Troubadour'
and 'Kitten Coup'.
The album reaches its dark climax with 'The Wicker
Man', and ends on an enigmatic, yet thankfully optimistic note with
'Ian the Pixie'.
Sadly 'My Left Floot' is no longer available,
though if you're very lucky you may find the odd copy at folk fairs
or on ebay.
